Today we celebrated Mac’s first birthday with a small, family party. She was first apprehensive, then loved being the center of attention, and then was too tired to function. So it was a great party.
For Christmas, Andrew got a green screen stand that we have since used a few times as a party background. It worked great to hang a “Happy Birthday” banner on. We also served sandwiches, veggies and dip, buffalo chicken dip with tortilla chips, and Ikea veggie balls (for us vegetarians and vegans.)
I cannot believe that Mac is a year old now! She is such a ray of light in our lives. Her favorite things include Ralph, Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, and books. She will eat anything we put in front of her which includes kale, quinoa, sweet potatoes, broccoli. The girl loves to eat!
Mac is always on the go! I took this picture about a month ago (so please excuse the Christmas tree.) We bought her a pair of big girl shoes. She looks a bit apprehensive, but she asks to wear them now. Not only does she run after Ralph, she also is practicing jumping off of her little couch and also does down dog to view the world from a different point of view.
In less than a week, Mac will have her birthday. It feels like just yesterday she was born. My fragile infant is now a big girl who walks, almost talks, and doesn’t need many cuddles anymore.
She has been walking for almost three months now and even runs, but only if she has something she isn’t supposed to or if Ralph is chasing her.
I really suck at blogging apparently. In my defense, Mac only catnaps for maybe 30 minutes at a time. That’s usually enough time for me to use the bathroom, grab a snack and check Facebook before she is up and ready to eat again. I can’t complain though because overall she rocks.
So, because I haven’t been seen on here in a while, this may get long. Who knows until I get going, right? Mac will turn 6 months next week and I feel like time has absolutely flown by. I guess that tends to happen when my day is broken up into routinized two-hour chunks.
We have had Mac in our lives for just over 6 weeks now and we have finally fallen into sort of a rhythm. Mac does like to mix things up, so things still aren’t consistent day-to-day. But overall, she is a great baby who eats and sleeps like a champ. I figured it was time for another photo dump.
Here is our baby burrito all wrapped after a good night of sleep.
I haven’t blogged in 3 weeks now, which is weird. I was on such a good schedule. It’s almost like I don’t have any free time anymore. But I have had a little time to pick out some cute pictures to show off.
Overall, life is good. Mac is a great baby the majority of the time. She sleeps through most of the night, is a champion eater, and isn’t too fussy. Plus she is cute, so I can’t even be that mad when she is fussy.
We even had our first non-doctor outing yesterday. Mac and I went to visit the toddlers at my school and Andrew’s coworkers at his office. She slept the entire time, which meant everything went great. I’m looking forward to her getting even older so we can start doing fun things, but of course I’ll also miss how small and cuddly she is right now.
She cracks us up with her faces. She is incredibly expressive.
As most of my readers come from my Facebook links, you all know that we welcomed Mac to the family on February 5. And yes, she has my last name.
I’m finally able to post some pictures and a G rated version of her birth story. Mac is thinking you might enjoy hearing her entrance into the world.
I am officially two days away from my due date and everyone wants to know how I’m feeling. I sum it up in one word: uncomfortable. One of the midwives I saw was surprised at how short my torso is. Even though baby has dropped, it still manages to take up my entire torso space. I can’t breathe and I still have heartburn, but I also manage to waddle. That’s not supposed to happen.
Today, Andrew and I went to Costco together. Usually he goes by himself, but today I invited myself along because I keep thinking about how each trip could be the last time we do something without a baby along. So we stocked up and I enjoyed the freedom of not having a baby yet.
Shopping Action Shot! Andrew did all of the running around while I pushed the cart and tried not to look like I was going to birth the baby right there in the bakery section.
With saving money in mind, I decided to put my nice camera to good use and try to take some maternity pictures at home. Obviously, I knew that they wouldn’t look as good as if I went to a professional photographer, but I was hoping I could edit them to make them look halfway decent. Hopefully this baby doesn’t come before we get a second try, because otherwise we will be stuck with these.
I know the belly is what we want in the picture, but apparently Andrew was willing to sacrifice the top of my head instead of backing up a few steps.
I figured that maybe Andrew could zoom in on the belly while I was on the phone with my mother. Instead I got a full body shot with an excited Ralph running through.
Yes, the fetus and I are so large now that we tower over the tree in this artsy shot by Andrew. Next stop, climbing a skyscraper in a pregnant rage over not being able to find French Toast Crunch in stores yet.
On New Years Eve six years ago, I had my New Year’s kiss with a cute boy. I never thought that I would end up marrying him and now I’m even having a baby with him.
This is the first photo we have together from that night. It isn’t the best picture but, at the time, we didn’t realize this would be a picture we would look back on fondly. Eight days later, we were officially dating. Having our anniversary practically on New Year’s Day means that it is easy for us to look back at each year and what we have accomplished.
