An Old Married Couple Celebrates a 21st Birthday

My baby sister Molly celebrated her 21st birthday on Saturday. When she decided to rent a party bus for the night, Andrew and I decided to try to be young and carefree again for one night. We dropped our babies off (Mac went to Grandma and Grandpa’s house while Ralph stayed with Aunt Jo) and then we hit the road.

After a barbecue, we walked in the cold to Hardee’s to catch the party bus. Honestly, I don’t think I’ve really ever been on a party bus before. I’m not a goodie goodie (anymore) but I’ve just never really been to an event where we rented one. But the one we got was a lot nicer than what I had been imagining. So the first thing we did was drive to the Catholic church to pick up my mom. Typical.

With the bus packed full, we headed out to the townie bars around the county. Andrew and I sat towards the front of the bus and pretended we liked country music as it blasted out of the speakers. Molly and I managed to take a cute picture. Of course the first cute picture we take in years and it is because we are about to take a shot. BTW, UV Cake is disgusting and nothing like cake. Lies! It was also quite confusing that Molly and I were matching.

We pulled up to the first bar and once we got inside, I took this picture jokingly saying she was getting carded for the first time. She thought I was a total idiot. She’s probably right. But no one else was going to play the role of embarrassing older sister, so it was up to me.

Someone bought Molly a drink. Something tells me she didn’t like it very much.

I’m pretty sure you can’t just waltz into any bar and ask to buy a case of beer to take on the bus, but apparently they didn’t care at this bar. I thought it was a smart idea.

In true Molly fashion, she climbed right on up onto Andrew and Bob’s legs to announce that the party bus was rolling out. I don’t think either of them even blinked an eye at it.

When we got to the next bar there was a live band, so we ran onto the dance floor and started jamming out, except it was just sound check. Oops. I think the band ended up hating us. Except once we left, I don’t think they had anybody left who was actually listening to them. I guess that’s what they get.

Cheers!

Molly insisted I take this picture. Quality shot, Molly, thanks for the heads up on this pose.

We took over a few of the townie bars around. This one had a “DJ” which was just a guy with a computer that I’m pretty sure was just playing Spotify and a microphone that was only used by Molly.

Then we drove to another bar and before half of the people got off the bus, we already got kicked out of said bar. Two men who will remain nameless tackled each other onto a table and broke the leg.

Our next stop was back at Molly’s house where Andrew, my Mom, and I ditched the bus to go home and sleep because we are lame. But no matter how lame, I needed to get up early in order to get home to this sleepy baby who had a great time being spoiled by her grandparents.

Molly’s 21st Birthday Stats:

  • Drinks consumed: (by everyone) too many (by me) a responsible, but fun amount
  • Number of people who take major falls while on the bus: 2
  • Number of people who fell asleep on the bus: 2
  • Bars we were thrown out of: 1 (although Molly was also kicked off of the stage when she tried to dance with the band)
  • Places I was carded: 0 (apparently I finally look older than 21)
