Well, we had such a busy holiday weekend that I had hardly any time to work on the blog, which is a good thing. We all need a break sometimes 🙂 Our weekend was filled with family, fun, and food (but no fireworks. We were too tired to stay up.)
Out of all of the things I’ve inherited from my grandmother, one of them is the inability to look nice in an otherwise wonderful family picture.
Our new, warm-weather hobby is croquet. We use a set that is probably 40 years old and looks like it’ll fall into splinters if you hit it too hard. But it works! On Father’s Day, Andrew and Bob got into a pretty competitive endgame, so they were out for blood this time.
Well as it turns out, Mama ended up winning. But it didn’t stop talk of another match next time we are in town.
Before we took our family picture, Bob took the initiative to clean up the fire pit patio. He’s a good addition to the family.
On the other hand, my dad and Andrew just posed for their own picture.
Mac got to spend some great time with all of her favorites on my side of the family (except Uncle Mason, who is still living it up in Germany.) She got to chill with Uncle Bob and Aunt Molly.
She also got to play “Voom voom” in Chief’s truck. (Apparently she also got to sit on and steer the tractor, but I was too entrenched in the croquet match to get a picture of that.)
Mac also made a new friend: the girl statue attached to the fountain my mom has on her deck. Besides hugging the girl and washing her face, Mac also drank the water and threw the majority of the decorative rocks into the rock garden. (Because that’s where rocks go, you idiot adults!) She is getting her sense of order, so we looked the other way.
Probably the most entertaining thing of the weekend was when Mac insisted on walking Sophie, my parents’ dog. Sophie is much more tolerant than Ralph, so she allowed Mac to walk her. It helped that my parents technically live in the country and we walked around the golf course after most people went home for Fourth of July dinner.
After Sophie sped up a few times and Mac was running stumbling as fast as her legs could carry her, Zippy stepped in to help out with pacing.
“Come on Sophie, no resting!”
At the end, when everyone was getting tired, Mac decided to let Zippy carry her. But ONLY if she could still hold the leash. Then she was still technically walking Sophie.
So that was my Fourth of July. Not as eventful as some of my other holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas 1, First Birthdays, 21st Birthdays, etc.) but still fun and relaxing.
